Default 318 Build Suggestion Needed

I know a 318 all my buddies are bagging on me but I want to build it.Its in a longwheel base D-150 truck. I dont know to much about dodge engines but I am willing to learn. First off I am wanting to build it to stripe little cars red light to red light nothing to much requiring a stall convertor over 2000-2400 rpm or a rear gear such as 4.56 just a good running 318 with plenty of street power. Thank you for any suggestions.

First off welcome to Dodge Forum.

Have you started with the basics? Opened up the air intake and a more free flowing exhaust?

Yes I have a edlbrock 600cfm carb ,rpm intake manifold, and 2 1/4" duals with Hooker Turbo style mufflers. I am just wondering if these are a step in the right direction for my expections. And if so would I need a cam with 110 lope sepration or 112?
