Default over heating ign. coil

I have a 1984 ramcharger that a fallen tree crushed the body. so i took the body off and put on a 1954 dodge pilot house pick-up cab and used most of the 84 eng. compartment wiring. the truck runs about 20mins to a half an hour than it dies the coil is so hot you can't even touch it. it seams to be over charging.if you dis connect the big wire on the alternator the coil doesn't over heat anymore i went to a 1 wire alternator and still the same i'v changed every elect. componet at least once. i'm guessing i have something wired wrong even tho the manual say it's right. can anybody help me PLEASE thanx norm
