Default Need help on troubleshooting a heater

I posted this to Chrysler, I hoped I would get additional memberas to review and share experiences here.

The hoses to the heater core are cold.

I have disconnected the hoses and flushed the engine, the heater core, and the heater return line back through the oil cooler. The engine gets warm, but the upper radiator hose only gets 1/2 'inflated' which indictes to me that it does not have full pressure. I have vented the radiator with the engine up to temperature and the stream from the vent with the plug all the way out was only a few inches. I was disappointed in that.

I am convinced the water passages should be open. I am not absolutely convinced that the oil cooler water passage is completely open as I was using a garden hose for the pressure source, but water was flowing through there.

I have two thoughts, one being a bad water pump even though it is not leaking through the seal. The other is that there is still a resstriction in the oil cooler.

Any Ideas? Thank You

Your oil cooler is a completely sealed unit within the radiator, the oil cooler will not affect your coolant/heater system. I would start with replacing the thermostat, checking the water pump, and also checking to see if you have flow through the heater core.

Thank you. The thermostat is new. I am convinced there is no flow through the heater core. And I have verified that the heater core is clean and open.

I have worked to vent the air from the engine through the upper valve on the radiator. However, the upper radiator hose is not more than half inflated. And the fluid flow from the raadiator vent with the screw completely out is very little. Is there another location to vent the engine?

I am speculating that there is minimal flow from the water pump (And I may still have some air yet to remove). Do these water pumps have plastic impellers? If so, is there a history of them breaking?

Again thanks for the information.

Nope Thermostat is ok. I am concerned that thisvehicle may have a defective 'plastic' water pump. I will get back to the car this weekend. Has anyone pulled the water pump on this vehicle and if so, can you tell me if the factory water pump is steel or plastic?

Thanks
