timing housing cracked .why ?

hey i have a 1991 . 12 v cummins and the timing housing just cracked for no apparent reason any answers would be appreciated

Many hr of operation,metal fatique most likly.Heat and cool down cycle take the life out of alot of parts.Just a thought..........
