2010 3500 on the pipeline
Alrighty another FNG here. How yall doing? I am a rig welder (meaning I run my own portable welding rig to weld on pipelines). Been doing it since 2010 when I got out of the Army and I wore out my first rig and its time for a new one. Right now running a 97 ford f350 4wd ext cab 7.3 powerstroke. There are lots of guys that run Dodges. Really it doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. I ain’t really partial. The Ford was just a good deal that came along. I am looking at a 2010 dodge ram 3500 dually crew 4wd Cummins. You guys wouldn’t believe some of the absolute crap roads we gotta drive on they will beat a truck all to hell. Anyhow, to my point is there anybody here that is running the 2010 and new Dodge 3500 on really rough terrain on a daily basis? How is it holding up? Has there been any problems with the 2010 newer dodge? What kind of fuel mpg are they getting? The fuel part is really important. I put well over 100 miles a day on my rig. That’s the only thing the pipeline wont furnish is fuel. That 7.3 just eats the fuel up (4.10). I usually like to drive easy but we all travel in a convoy out to the ROW everyday and most guys drive like a bat outta hell. Also, I wanna put manual lock outs on it. Is there one brand that’s the best to use? And whats the auto tranny like in these? If the truck will hold up good I wouldn’t mind at all to put a built up tranny in it. Just need a truck that I can get 3 years or so out of. Would really like to buy new but can’t justify dropping 45-50k on a truck that will be wore out in 3 years or so and won’t get **** for it when I trade it in. yeah, its how I make my living but still just cant bring myself to do it.
I know it’s a lot of dumb questions but I would really appreciate all the feedback yall can give me.
Thanks
