New to forum. I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4. Had the front driver side hub fail on me so i replaced it. Couldnt get axle nut off as it is 1 11/16 and i dont have that big of socket. My master mechanic buddy says just run it without the AXLE it will be fine it doeant do anything. Yup never doing that again. Got about 100 yards onto freshly paved road and tire fell off. The only thing keeping tire from rolling down the road was brake line. Got another new hub and went to shop and borrowed closest size nut they had and put new hub on with axle. Bombed around my backyard for 20 min and still intact!!!! Never drive without front axle in hub!!!!!!! 120 tow bill for 100 yards and possible bill from city for road repair and its done. Only plus to this whole story was i met the nicest, hottest female cop ive ever seen lol!!!!
