Greetings: Gray haired old guy here with an 1987 Raider, 2.6L, 5 speed, 159k miles. I acquired this rig from a friend ($1000) who is downsizing in preparation to relocating out of state. I had the opportunity to drive it a few times so I knew what I was getting into. All it needed was some cosmetic cleanup...had the outside detailed, engine compartment pressure washed/degreased, replaced the radio and speakers, added spare tire boot, painted the wheels, added halogen fog lights, replaced antenna, added Curt tow hitch, replaced broken tail light lens, repaired side view mirrors...next up: replace the cargo matt, repaint faded black window/panel trim areas, repair fuel cover cable release.
Registered in Washington State as "collector vehicle" (30+ years old) for remainder of life, one-time fee.
Familiar with other Dodge products, daughter had a 2012 Durango Crew SUV, her husband drives a RAM Pickup (my other rides are two Corvettes '84-C4, '98-C5, two heavy cruisers: Kawasaki Vulcan Classic '01, Kawasaki Nomad '02, '78 Ford E250 cargo Van).
Welcome to DF! You sure don't see many of those anymore.
Dodge marketed the Mitsubishi Montero badged as the "Raider" from 1987 to 1989, so the newest ones are 31 years old which explains why there aren't many still on the road. I'm struggling to find one in a junk yard. The closest I've found locally was a 1990 and 1991. Mitsubishi marketed the Montero in various editions from 1983 to 2006. I got this thing for various reasons, (1) my '98 Vette was turning into a truck (2) got snowed in last winter for 8 days, Corvettes don't do well on snowy roads (3) I'm always looking for a project to keep busy.
