Finally, my toy car!!
Hi, all!
I just found this site, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. I just got my very first "toy car," something I can work on that has no purpose other than to have fun, and no problem with it being offline for a while. It's a 1980 Dodge Mirada, 318 2bbl with a 727 trans. Nightwatch Blue, white cabriolet roof and white leather interior. Great sheetmetal, runs decently (but needs a major tune-up!), good brakes, good steering, and it only cost $50!! It's sat inside a barn (yeah, one of those!) for at least 6 years, unused, and some of the power accessories don't run at the moment (such as the driver's window being down and won't power up), and the interior, though not an absolute wreck, is still not very pretty, and it will all come out and be completely replaced with custom-designed (by me!) interior panels, including the dash, a new center console, and all the upholstery.
The engine is going to stay mild, though I may add a 4bbl and all new exhaust with headers. No plans to modify anything internally, only to make sure the engine runs smoothly and reliably; it's going to be for driving, not racing, though I'm definitely going to concentrate on great handling. The look is a whole different story, though; along with possibly replacing the front fascia with that of a Cordoba LS (that gunsight grille is COOL! And it looks more like a modern Dodge ...), I hope to give it a sharp two-tone ruby metallic/charcoal paint job, a black cabriolet roof with red piping, and possibly billet Rallye replica wheels, 17". A bit retro, a bit modern, and hopefully classy and understated until you're right up on it. I'm an artist, so I'll be doing up some concept drawings soon, which I'll post as soon as I'm happy with them
.
Glad I found this site! (BTW, this is my third Mopar - the first was a 1969 Fury III coupe, and I currently drive a 1996 Stratus, the best car I've ever owned)

Geoff,
Welcome to DF. This is the place to come for getting ideas, checking out other peoples rides, asking questions and sharing knowledge. Lots of good people here. Glad to have you aboard.
That could be a real sleeper. Mopar Performance just finished a 500hp-318 build a few issues back. The SB Mopars have lots of potential. Look forward to seeing pics of the progress as you work on the car.
It looks like that is going to be a fun project. Good luck.
James
