First Time 2nd Gen Owner Questions
Wow, there are so many variables, where to start? First off, head over to the second gen section and start a thread there. In the tech section you'll get all sorts of advice. Some if it even GOOD advice. Make sure you mention the details. Engine, year 2 or 4 wheel drive, and so on. A little about the history of the truck. A low mile truck that an elderly mechanic had will need different attention than one you dug out of the weeds on a farm. Any known mechanical history is good too. The plenum on the bottom of the intake often needs repair but done right, you only need to do it once. Usually around 150,000 miles. When mine blew around 165K, it went from using a quart of oil every 500-600 miles to one every 75 miles. Now, after fixing it, the valve cover leaks, the oil sending unit leak and so on, it hasn't used enough oil to measure how much it's using.
Basically, it's a good old truck if taken care of and just look for what you would on any used vehicle. When you start the new thread, post photos. A few of the truck outside, maybe one or two inside and under the hood of anything that looks iffy. The thing about photos is someone might spot something you need to attend to before it fails.
