Heya!
I'm Gerry and I've just come into possession of my fourth Intrepid. My first was a Platinum '97 3.3L that I loved. It wasn't quick, but it ran and handled well enough. I traded it on a Steel Blue '01 SE 2.7L and had a wonderful experience with that car, as it was a more solid feeling and trouble-free car than my '97. Unfortunately its life was cut short at 94,000 miles by an 86 yr old kamikaze blue hair in a Buick when she did her best to nail me squarely head on. We both walked away and despite my driving the '01 home from that encounter, both cars were totals. I then purchased a Graphite '04 SE 2.7. I've not been as pleased with it as I was the '01 due to lack of installed options, but I've added several of the options and accessories and it's doing fine at 41,000 miles. I just came into possession of a Stone White '99 Intrepid, again with the 2.7L, but it's had a rough life. I came to know the car when it had 92k on it and had lunched a timing set. Figuring on serious engine damage, I replaced the engine with an '01 2.7 with 65k on it. The odometer now reads 118,700 and the timing chain is clanging away once again. It runs beautifully, smooth and quiet at speed, but the racket at idle is enough to wake the dead. I still have the original engine for this car as well as the one I installed. I'm hoping to resurrect this '99 and get some useful life out of it as I'm sure it should be able to make 200k with no problems. I run Mobil1 synthetic in all my 2.7's since the service manager at the local dealer advised me to do so when the '01 had less than 50k on it, back in late '03.
