New, first post
Greetings from Big Wonderful Wyoming,
My name is Dave Rose aka Cactus Cowboy. I've worked in a Dodge store, in sales, for the past 5 years, so I live and breath Dodge Trucks. I'm more of a Jeep/****** fanatic, but I recently bought my first Dodge truck (a trade-in at the store) for the whopping sum of $300.
My 'new' Dodge is a 1988 W150 regular cab long box 4WD. The engine is 5.2 TBI V8, A727 Auto, NP 241 transfer case. No AC, but it does have a good heater & radio! Looks like a solid axle D44 up front with disc brakes & axle disconnect, and a Chrysler 9.25" in the rear. 3.23 axle ratios. Body is very straight with no rust and good paint, tan/yellow color. First chore was to remove a god-awful grill guard and the 6 off road lights bolted to it. My wife said "You took off the cool stuff." Yeah, right!
Only 111,000 miles on the truck. A compression test indicates good internals, possibly a stuck or burnt valve on one cylinder with 95 PSI. All other cylinders had 125~135 PSI compression. I'll do a complete tune-up, change all fluids, belts, hoses, etc... There's a fair amount of sludge in the engine so I'm hoping repeated engine flushes and oil changes will get rid of the gunk and loosen up the leaking/stuck valve. If not, I'll pull the heads and have them rebuilt.
Best regards,
Dave in Wyoming

RE: New, first post
Oops... actually this would be my second Dodge truck. I bought a new Dakota in 1990. That truck was a regular cab long box with a 3.9 V6, Auto, 2WD, base model with no AC. I sold that truck in 1994.
I sure like Dodge trucks. If I didn't have so much money tied up in my 62 ****** pickup project I'd buy a new 2500 Power Wagon with a 6 speed and leather.
