Well, between the move, new work, new home, etc. I have been extremely busy and haven't had a chance to do updates. Back in July we flew into Baltimore and the Skyline had already cleared customs and was waiting for us. It was a headache dealing with the broker, couldn't direct me to the correct port location the car was actually at and having to have an escort (that you have to pay), but finally got the car and drove it out. After replacing the dead battery, it was time to get on the road to North Carolina. Here's a pic from the first rest stop we came to in Maryland:

One frustrating fact was that during the over one and a half year I had the Skyline in the UK, even when I first got it and it was extremely low, I didn't have issues with clearance. Since arriving here I have found many places I don't even bother driving it and have scraped the front bumper a few times pretty good. Also, I found that the front tires have positive camber and were wearing badly uneven.

So after a good pause of modding, it was time to take care of these things. The front upper control arms were the stock arms, so it was time for adjustable ones. I found that GKTech had made a new design for the front upper control arms that are based off of the design used for Group A racing. It looked like an extremely solid design and made sense as it allows for some twisting. Here's the old and new arms:




While doing that I raised the front suspension (this is actually the second time I've raised it since I got the car). I then moved onto the back and found that I was WAY overdue to replace the rear tires because the camber on them wore them badly:


So I raised the rear end up as well (again, also). And had to last minute purchase new tires. It all together again, and much safer now. I'll have to get rear upper control arms to correct the camber. In the meantime, the front arms feel much better!

I remember Bozo racing in Hiroshima in the 80's. Had a souped up Mitsubishi Galant Alpha. Drove the Bozo's nuts, they weren't used to a "round eye" that could actually street race. But, I grew up in Europe, where racers actually turn left AND right...... :-)
Made a few bucks on the weekends, the Japanese guys, while they hated to lose, were honorable. My CO would have had a heart attack if he had found out about my extra-curricular activities......

And all today's kids think Fast and Furious is summat kinda new........
100mph+ down the back streets of Hiroshima, in the dark, barely clearing sidewalks. You had to be there to understand it.

i can understand enjoying the streets of Japan. I was in Okinawa for several years where I had my first R32 that this one is taking the place of. It was a GTE version, SOHC non-turbo with 4-lug wheels. I got a GTS-t engine swapped into it and only had the exhaust done so it was a sleeper. Had lots of fun with that one!

 

I'm about 40 minutes away from Raleigh. We need to get together. I make a wicked Shepards Pie. I also have brown sauce.....

Upside of being a US serviceman, we used to get to skip the mandatory (3yr?) inspections. When I was over there they were really strict about it if you were Japanese, they kinda let the US servicemen just roll. My Mitsubishi had a DOHC inline 6 that was grafted in from another vehicle(I forget which) I picked it up from a guy who was leaving, cheap. First day I owned it, a front steeing component broke and I hit the Sea wall on the base at 50mph. Took me about a week to locate donor parts and convince the JY owner(who spoke no english, I spoke no Japanese) to cut everything in front of the doors off the donor vehicle, and sell it to me.
