Default New Jersey legality question...

Are stack exhaust pipes legal in NJ? I want to install 5" pipes on my '88 W150 shortbed, but I heard from a friend that only commercially registered vehicles can have them. I've tried looking it up, but can't find an answer.

thanks,
Spike
