World's Fastest SUV: Super-Hot Cayenne Sets Speed Record
PAPENBURG, Germany — The Swiss-made sport-utility vehicle SP600M by Sportec, a Porsche Cayenne developed in cooperation with Toyo Tires and Shell, has broken the off-roader speed record at the RKP test track in Papenburg, Germany. It clocked speeds in excess of 191 mph, smashing the existing world record of 175.2 mph.
The Sportec SP600M is powered by a 700-horsepower V8 engine capable of propelling the two-and-a-half-ton SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just under 4.2 seconds. The standard engine was significantly modified with twin turbochargers, sport exhaust and a new air filter.
The vehicle has also been equipped with an electronic suspension control module that allows it to lower by 1.6 inches depending on its speed. In an attempt to improve the SUV's aerodynamics, the exterior design features front and tail aprons and side moldings.
