I've always been a dodge fan but its been a few year since ive owned one.today I was doing a termite inspection and found a early dodge coronet with a v8.it has 20000original miles and has been sitting in this garage for 50 years.the people are interested in selling me the car but we dont know much about it.they believe its a 1951 but i didnt think they came with v8s.does anybody know what the first year they came with v8s and how much it may be worth.O ya its a 2door hard top

First year the Coronet was available with a V8 was 1953- the 241 ci Hemi was an option. In 54, the V8 became standard. The body was redesigned in 55- chances are the one you're looking at is either a 53 or 54.

Not really.... depending on the body type (club coupes are worth less than the hardtops), year (54's average higher than 53's), and given that this one has sat for so long, maybe it's worth 3-5K at most. In top notch show shape, they top out at high teens to low 20s. Post some pics if you can- body, trim, and interior condition will go along way in figuring out how much it's actually worth.

Pics will also help figure out exactly what you are looking at here, a vague description is really hard to work with. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I had a 53 Cornet. It had the 241 Red Ram V-8 and fluid drive or the Gyro-matic. If you look at the vin or the block (front drivers side top corner) the first numbers are D44 for 53 and D54 for 54. It has a canister oil filter on the passenger rear of the engine. You can still get an element for it, or if you like to gamble, a roll of toilet paper without the tube works also. It will also have a dual point autolite distributor.
