Default Trying to identify a car...

Hi guys and gals,

Let me just say firstoff that i'm extremely fresh to this site, so thank you in advance for any help you all might be able to offer.

Also some background info: My father died when i was three (i'm now 25) but my whole life my mom would talk about how he had this car before he went to Vietnam, that he loved more than anything besides me and my mother. He had to sell it when he was shipped overseas, which he obviously regretted, as i found his letters from Vietnam, and that's almost ALL he talked about ("Hi mom and dad, how're you? Have you seen my car, is it being treated well?").

I'm currently at a point where i'd like to purchase what he had, and rebuild it in his memory. I have a single photo of the car that i've been working off of trying to figure out what it was. I believe i have it narrowed down, but i figured i'd toss it off to you guys to be my expert advice before i plop down a crapload of money on something that's not right, lol.

Here's the photo:

and here's what i know/have guessed:

He called it the Purple People Eater because he would supposedly *destroy* people in street races.... so thereby i'm guessing it has a larger motor, but i know the color was Plum Crazy Purple.

He was shipped to Vietnam in 1969, so the year has to have been before then. I also know that he did NOT buy it new, so it's probably a few years old. From what i have researched it LOOKS like a 1965 Dodge Coronet, but this i'm not 100% certain on... the grill looks off to be that year, but the body looks right. I do know that's my uncle's Javelin in the back there too

And .... that's honestly about the full extent of what i know. I didn't know if there's maybe any distinguishing marks or anything on the car that might narrow it down....

Again, thank you for any help you might be able to offer.

~M

I am pretty sure by the looks of that roofline, that it is a 1964 Dodge. Not sure what model it is though.

I knew it was a dodge polar, I did not know the year.

Dodge or plymith versions are going to be really hard to find, I would bet you could find a slant six version and up grade from thier.

I thought a cornant was kinda the same as a Polar?

Looks like a '64 Polara tome also, and the one in the background is NOT an AMC Javelin or AMX, it is a Dodge Charger '68 or '69.
