Default Sending Unit Question

I have a 1966 Coronet with a 19 Gal. tank in it. I want to put in a new sending unit. Is there a way to determine if I have a 3/8 or 5/16 diamter unit without dropping the tank. Is there a number I can pull off of the tank somewhere that could be used to decipher it for me. I know I'm going to have to drop the tank eventually to install the sending unit, I was just trying to purchase the correct sending unit before installing it. Is there a way to access the sending unit coming down through the trunk. Just curious & wishful thinking? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don

on most chrysler cars, dodge, ply ect. the fuel line is 5/16 dia. if its 5/16 at the line from the frame to the engine it will be the same at the gas tank. BUT some if not all high performance engines, Max Wedge early 60s, race hemi are 3/8, dont know about street hemi, my bet is 3/8. and iam guessing you dont have a 1968 Hemi Cuda.
