I have a low mileage 1991 Dodge Spirit that I inherited from my Dad. When I put on brakes I twice heard a pop or knock underneath the car and when I got home there was smoke coming out from underneath the middle of the car and I could smell something that had got hot. Car was running fine and brakes good. Nothing on the dash indicated a problem, did not run hot. Had brakes worked on a few weeks ago but fluid level is ok on everything. What could be going on and would it be safe to drive the car a few miles to the shop that previously worked on the brakes? Please give me your opinion.

 

Look up underneath for something leaking. Check all the other fluids. Can't tell you it's safe to drive without more info on what you have checked.
