Oh yeah...I totally agree. My car has already been modified by the previous owner. So yes, it is more street machine....which is what I prefer. I just want to make it more street friendly and drivable. If a GF or bud wants to drive it, I don't want to have to explain how to work the transmission. I want to be able to put it in drive and go.....

Does anyone make a kit to rebuild the shift linkage? You mention that if they are worn or missing that could be the problem. Where can I get these plastic insulators, and does any one have a link to an overhaul how to on this linkage?

This is your typical column shift. If i where you i would have a look at it and see where the problem is. I have seen the plastic insulators wear and then you have metal on metal witch can also be worn. The slop could be in the column also.

That diagram is very helpful thanks! Is that the actual linkage for the 65 Dodge Coronet or just a general linkage set up?

1965 was a transitional year. I remember when I ran a salvage yard, it was a nightmare keeping track of general specs on Mopar parts as they usually still had the cable rather than later rod linkage. I'll look around and see if I can find some of my old interchange books. My favorite from back then was a '66 edition. It's just a matter of finding it.

Im getting ready to pull the eng/trans to do a refresh, but it sure would be nice to know before what that trans linkage is suppose to look like....

I learned the hard way to disconnect the cables at the dash before pulling the transmission. I've been looking for a diagram but so far no luck. This may have something you can use but it's mostly '66 up transmissions.

This does show more like what you will run into.

When I get caught up at work and get home at a reasonable time, I'll look for more information.
