Rusty's plans?
Drivers Pension and possible run in Rolex at Daytona: There are two other items on #2-Rusty Wallace's agenda. He wants to spark interest in a pension plan for NASCAR drivers. It's an idea he said he, Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon floated about five years ago but was shunted aside by Earnhardt's death in the 2001 Daytona 500. He also wants to run the 2006 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona sports car race.

Entering his final season in Nextel Cup, Rusty Wallace is calling on NASCAR officials to establish a pension plan for drivers similar to those provided to athletes in other professional sports leagues. NASCAR vice president of communications Jim Hunter says officials would look into a pension system if the "right plan" came along. But Hunter notes drivers are "independent contractors" working for teams, not for NASCAR — so any plan would need to be supported financially by team owners as well as NASCAR.
