RE: Steward Vs. Vickers
here ya go man....
Points leader Tony Stewart is put on probation for the fifth time in six seasons.
NASCAR placed two drivers on probation Tuesday, including Nextel Cup series leader Tony Stewart, for infractions at Watkins Glen.
NASCAR fined Stewart $5,000 and placed him on probation until Dec. 31 for hitting Brian Vickers' car after the Busch race Saturday. NASCAR fined Kyle Busch $10,000 and placed him on probation until Dec. 31 for running into another competitor's car after the Cup race at Watkins Glen.
Probation carries through all series, so if Stewart has another issue in any NASCAR series it could affect his drive for a Cup title.
NASCAR has placed Stewart on probation in five of the past six seasons -- with 2003 being the exception.
Stewart was placed on probation for a scuffle with Robby Gordon at Daytona in February 2000. Stewart earned probation in 2001 for spinning out Jeff Gordon on pit road after the spring Bristol race. Stewart did that in retaliation for contact that spun out his car on the last lap.
Stewart's probation was extended in 2001 after he refused to acknowledge the black flag at Daytona in July for passing below the yellow line. He angrily confronted a series official afterward and had to be restrained by car owner Joe Gibbs.
NASCAR placed Stewart on probation in 2002 after he struck a photographer after the Brickyard 400 in August. And last year, Stewart was on probation for a confrontation with Vickers after the race at Infineon Raceway.
