Default Newman, Newman, Newman!

Three in a row for the "Rocket Man". He led the most laps in the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway despite not having a dominate car. There was some speculation among the drivers that Newman was "brake checking" on the restarts, but that simply wasn't the case. Newman made sure that he cleared the restart line to avoid a penalty for jumping the restart. Thanks to Newman's win, Dodge is now one win behind Ford in the Manufactures standings. Newman is "The Man!"

He is on a role in the Busch Series, not the Nextel cups series. His 3 wins in a row do not compare to Tony's. I'm not coming down on him, everyone here knows I am the biggest Newman fan alive. But I don't see all the fuss about ANY Nextel Cup driver winning 3-in-row in the Busch Series. I mean sure, it's a great thing. He beat a lot of good drivers to win those 3 times. But I just wish he would do that in the Nextel Cup instead of Busch. BTW, He is known for his talent at Bristol and short tracks in general. Let's hope he can pull it off on at the 500!

Alltel - The best service and the best drivers!

Newman perseveres for third consecutive victory
Long night results in No. 39 giving Dodge first Busch win at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Ryan Newman outlasted two long rain delays, 12 cautions and overtime to stretch his winning streak to three consecutive races in the Busch Series with a victory Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Newman inherited the lead in the Food City 250 under caution when the cars in front of him had to make scheduled pit stops on Lap 139. He was still there when the second rain stoppage of the night was called, and resumed the race as the leader after delays totaling almost two hours.

He then had to hold off several charges from Kasey Kahne, especially on the numerous restarts in the waning laps. Kahne made several attempts to pass him, but spun himself out with 30 laps to go as he raced for the lead.

With Kahne out of the way, it left fellow Nextel Cup stars Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick as the only two challengers to Newman. Biffle was attempting to pass Newman with 17 laps to go when Newman was saved by a spin by Carl Edwards that brought out the 11th caution.

Racing resumed with 11 laps to go, and Newman was again aided by another caution just when it looked as if Harvick and Biffle were making another run at him with five laps left. It set up a two-lap sprint to the finish under NASCAR's green-white-checkered flag finish policy that Newman won by building a huge lead in his Dodge on the restart.

"Obviously the cautions played to our benefit," Newman said.

Biffle finished second and Harvick was third.

"We definitely had the faster car," Biffle said. "I just didn't want to see those cautions in the end. I could have got Ryan so easily in the end."

Clint Bowyer was fourth -- the best finish by a full-time Busch drivers. He was followed by Johnny Sauter and series points leader Martin Truex Jr., who finished sixth.

Newman, a Cup regular who has only entered four Busch races this season, started his winning streak Aug. 13 at Watkins Glen then won last week in Michigan. This victory in the Food City 250 made him the first driver since Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 1999 to win three in a row.

The Busch Series record is four consecutive victories, set by former series champion Sam Ard in 1983.

"That's definitely cool,' Newman said. "I read some of the stats of what the history was with Sam Ard doing it, and it's pretty cool.'

Kyle Busch started from the pole and led the first 63 laps. But he erred under caution one lap later when he tried to pit before the service road was opened. Earnhardt, Truex and Paul Menard all followed him and all were penalized by NASCAR.

Reed Sorenson started the day ranked third in the points standings, but wasn't allowed to qualify for the race after NASCAR caught a crew member rubbing an unauthorized substance on one of his tires after practice. The team member and crew chief Brian Pattie were ejected from competition and NASCAR said additional penalties would be announced next week.

Sorenson was able to salvage the day with an 11th-place finish and is still third in the standings.
