Jeep SRT8 owns Terminator Cobra in the bitter cold.
So, the other day I was riding around in a new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 (on an out of commission air field, of course) when I came up on a black Terminator Cobra. It looked stock but was louder than stock sitting there at idle. Looked like it could use some love as it was covered in salt residue...and the wheels were filthy.
When I pulled along side him, we were at a stretch where the tarmac narrows down to one lane around an 500 feet past the stop. I was in the lane that ends so I had planned to pull out in front of him to get into the lane but as soon as he saw the Jeep, he starting revving at me. I revved back but Im sure that he couldnt hear it over his loud *** exhaust. It was dry but the temps were in the low 20s. I edged forward a bit to let him know that I was going to merge in front of him when the light turned green and he lurched forward to show me that he wasnt going to make it easy.
When the light turned green, I launched in track mode just above idle and the Jeep RIPPED out of the hole. It is easily one of the hardest launching vehicles Ive ever driven...its really something. The fact that the roads were dusty and very cold had little impact on the Jeep. ON the other hand, the Cobra in the other lane didnt have the same launching fortunes that I did. I could hear his exhaust roaring as the tires spun and by the time I got to 60mph (running a 0-60 of 4.6 seconds according to the on board timing system), I was far enough in front of him that I was able to merge right in. he ran up on me and drove like an ******* for a few miles..swerving back and forth like he was going to pass me but it didnt happen. When I turned off, i gave him a thumbs up...he flipped me the finger.
It must hurt having your supercharged muscle car lose to a two and a half ton SUV.

Ive also had the pleasure of taking the Jeep SRT8 around a large autocross course, the 3 mile oval and the road course at the Chrysler Proving Grounds and this is an SUV that truly offers sports car capabilities with the room of an SUV and the towing capacity of many trucks. I towed with the SRT8 and it towed as confidently as some newer trucks on the market - albeit with less weight...but can you complain about a vehicle that will run low 13s, stock, and tow 5,000lbs confidently? I sure cant..
