Default Alan Kulwicki Note...

No April Fools joke, but it is hard to think 11 years ago today we lost Alan Kulwicki driver of the #7 Hooters Ford and 1992 Winston Cup Champion... hard to think what the sport may be like if he was still here and didn't die that day in that worrible helicopter accident.

Really, what an odd way for a race car driver to die...sad.

Davey Allison who was becoming one of NASCAR's brightest stars also died that same year in another helicopter accident.

Alan was also the last driver/owner to win a championship in cup racing.

I have a problem with choppers...I used to have to ride in them to visit B-52 bombing ranges in northern Wyoming (I was stationed at Great Falls, Montana/Malmstrom AFB)...we used Huey's and for the most part, they were reliable. But the wind blows strong in that part of the USA and more than once we were "inverted" by the wind. Not fun!!![sm=smiley11.gif]

I was a big Davey Allison fan and I remember very well when they both died. Said day for racing. Davey would have been a great driver and Alan already was a legend.

Actually I was wrong on two things... my mistake... he (Alan) was killed in a twin engine prop, and died actually the 2nd of April, even though the wreck was on the 1st.
