does anyone know how much boost a stock 426 hemi can handle. hot rod took a stock crate engine and made 750 hp with just a weiand 8-71 blower kit. i was thinking about doing that but with e85 and a bigger cam made more for boosted applications
Racing fuel is often Methanol, wood alcohol. Back in the early 60's, Chrysler engineers sort of fibbed. Actually they out right lied but so did everyone else back then. They "poor mouthed" the output of the 426 Hemi so they could race. It did put out 425 hp. Although at a low rpm range. At full blast it was putting out over 800 hp. That's why NASCAR started factoring the engines to make GM offerings more competitive. The Hemi's and the race motors from Ford were dominating racing until the Hemi was out;awed. It's been so long since I dealt with it, my memory is a bit vague.
ol grouch you said that you used to build cars. did you ever do a boosted 440. if so how much hp did it make
Superchargers were way out of my budget and nobody was using turbo's back then. As for a Dyno, we didn't know what that was. It was strictly the garage behind the house back then. It was strictly change one thing then race. Change another then race. Never change two things at once.
