i work with a kid, and i emphasize kid, who has a 93 5series bimmer, and he has a up sweep duel outlet muffler, and he says his does have holes drilled for water...but when i asked him about it, or anything else, for that matter, he gets super defensive. actually, hes a dumbass. he was telling me today about how he has a buddy who has "a built up mustang, with 300hp at the crank", and i said, you mean at the wheels, and he said, no, the crank...and when i said, that isnt that much, his reply was, "thats more than your RT", and he walked away and i yelled down the hall "do you wanna race" and he didnt reply. the discussion started by him badmouthing a dodge truck that came in, and at my old job, i installed this guys duals. this kid was like, thats junk, its not even mandrel bent. so i told him that mandrel bending wasnt that big of a deal on exhaust, and that he shouldnt say stupi things liek that. and thats when he told me about his buddies mustang...with 300hp...seems that mandrel bent system doesnt do much for him..

Some people just don't seem to know any better, good job on taking him to school.[sm=smiley2.gif]

Mandrel bent exhaust pipes do make a difference, but how much is determined by the engines output and the exhausts size to begin with. I know that switching from my stock krinkle bent 2 1/2" dual exhaust, stock style mufflers and exhaust manifolds to the Dynomax ceramic coated headers, Flowmaster 50 series mufflers and Tube Technologies 3" dual aluminized mandrel bent exhaust with H-pipe on my Roadrunner made a HUGE difference. Before that my mildly built 440 didn't seem much more powerful than the stock '73 400 high performance that it replaced. But after the totally new exhaust I put on, OMG it seemed like it gained 100 WHP, I know it wasn't that much but it sure as hell seemed like it. I know that I replaced everything, but the mandrel bending has been proven both on the dyno and at the track with the exact same size pipe just different bends. And every little bit counts.[sm=smiley2.gif] Most new cars are coming with mandrel bent exhaust from the factory, even my Shelby Z had mandrel bends because of it's performance level and that was in the 80's.

I would have thought it would have had a mandrel bent exhaust from the factory.[sm=smiley24.gif] It will help, but it won't give big gains and it will compliment any other mods just that much more. It also depends on what it had on it to begin with, be it regular wrinkle bent or compression bent. Compression bent is better than the wrinkle bent, but mandrel is better than all. The worse and more restrictive the exhaust is to begin with, the better a good mandrel bent exhaust is going to be.

well, he strikes me as the type that would brag about a stock part as though its an AM part with a muffler welded to it. today he made the comment.."let me remind you that i drive a bmw". and i replied with "and let me remind you that its 11 and a half years old."

later in the day he got sent home for tightening a O2 sensor so tight it ruined the threads.
