not to flame..but...
sounds like alot of old men with slow show cars, with possibly a few standard ouliers. the super fast 340 6pack challenger appears to be dialed 13.10, and regardless of how nice it is, im not impressed. also, you call it factory stock...id like to have a look at that "stock e-body". i have a 69 340, and mine is heavily built and im running 12.60s. i am unsure that th stock 340 coul get moving like that. i know its a paper battle caused by insurance nonsense...but the hemi cuda was only rated at 14.25, presumably running low 13s/high 12s, but there are a few bone stock show cars that i saw run last week, one was a beautful 68 runner, with a 383 auto, and he only dialed 9 flat in the quarter. my lowly mirada (that isnt welcome at this type of event) dialed over a second faster. i also see some cars in that pictoral who have rivers that arent wearing helmets.

im sure some older guys get their jollies watching rich old men hand out their once-a-year beatings to their show cars, but i dont see the point of making a big to-do out of this.

9 flat???? Bone stock huh??? sure.
I am sorry you feel that beautiful factory stock 60's muscle cars running in the 11's for FAST DRAG class or 13's for factory stock class cars is boring to you. Apparently HOTROD and virtually all of the other auto magazines do not share your opinion. Most of the competitors are between 25-50 yrs old. Just like any other racing demographic.
Last event brought out 300 spectators and many entries, I am sure they would have rather have seen your bone stock dodge stratus run 16's instead!!
Think its easy???? Run your car with exhaust manifolds, stock exhaust pipes, and on 6"'bias ply tires, and use all factory internals and external parts....and run mid 11's........just try it........it takes more skill & knowledge than you could ever imagine

actually gonzo..sorry about that..it was a major typo on my part..it was a 9 flat in the 8th...my bad. i do sppreciate the beauty of these cars, dont get me wrong..mostly im just p!ssed because my car isnt "classic enough" to enter these types of events. in a more positive light...how about some highlights of this racing instead of just pics of burnouts and stills?
i would jut rather see a tom hemphills 68 cuda run high 6s heavily modded than one on little tires running 13s or whatnot. the only car in those pics i can imagien running 11s from what i took from the pics is maybe that BB chevelle, possibly the 68 stang, if its a BB. just seems like an old-timers event to me.
ive foun these types of shows/races to simply be biased to older "Stock" cars so they ont have hardcore gearheads coming in and tearing everyone up.
like i said.i wasnt trying to flame..just speak up.

im gonna double post here, and say that this gonzo's explanation of this class does it NO justice. i got to see these cars in action last summer, and they are amazing. the webpage that he linked doesnt even do them justice! i saw a bone stock looking first generation firebird rip off a 11 flat run on redlines! these cars literally look ALL stock. i got to talk to some of the drivers, and i had the same poor opinion of the class in general, until the one guy who i was talking to said "im not as fast as everyone else, im only running low 11s"...so i went to watch, thinking he was joking, and i dont think there was a car anywhere near as slow as the mirada...
if anyone gets the chance to see these guys run, do so...its very cool...i was hasty in my prior judgement of this class.
