05 PW trans problems
I bought a 2005 Power Wagon new and have had repeat auto transmission problems. When shifting into gear nothing happens for about 20 seconds. This happens about 75% of time in reverse and occasionally in drive. I have to race the engine to finally get it to start slowly moving. Also the shifting is at times harsh with clunking. It periodically will not down shift whem accelerating. I've had it to the dealers 3 times without improvement. Today is the fourth try. They have changed the fluids, screens, valves without success. I also paid $600 for the recommended transmission service without improvement. It seems they are hoping the warranty will run out and it will cease to be their problem. I have had problems with one dealer when he found out I was mechanic and he just refused to service the vehicle? Is this a problem with this individual tranny or the whole group?

The dealer that refused to work on it, is that where you purchased the vehicle? I would contact Dodge corporate and then an attorney! As long as you have documentation, (workorder) of the attempted repairs or that there was a problem before it is out of warranty, then they are obligated to address your concern. Is there anything aftermarket on it?.......air filter (k&N), remote start, alarm, stereo, etc.....
I had the same problems with an 04 3/4 ton slt. I would have to wait for a period of about ten seconds before the truck would catch upwith the engine. The dealer where I bought it from had to replace the front pump they saidit was from the factory defect. It was originallyjust supposed to go in for a filter change to allevieate the problem. have you had any other trouble with the truck?

I had that problem from time to time but did not give it much thought until I came across a Technical Service Bulletin, about two months ago, regarding this symptom. I took it in to the dealer with a copy of the T.S.B. They performed the repair (change the transmission cooler filter) and the problem went away.
That TSB does sound like the fix. The Dealership should have verified this.

If you have enough problems with the trans, they should replace the entire unit. It will be cheaper for them (Dodge) in the long run.
They have had their chance at fixing it by the usual means. There must be a defect somewhere thatthe typical Technician can't find. Theyprobably can onlytroubleshoot this at the rebuild assembly plant. Discuss this with your Service Manager.
