Transmission question for my ramcharger
Hi everyone my name is Kevin and I have a 85 dodge ramcharger with about 6in of lift sitting on 35 swampers its old its rusty and fun as hell its my first Dodge and I love it I put a rebuilt 360outof a 75 dodge RVinto it with some extras comp 9000 mallory ignition and distribritor 650 edelbrock carb and some other stuff. Now on to the bad part like I said this is my first Dodge and I dont know alot about them. What I do know is that my 727 trans is going out I want to replace it but have been having trouble finding a replacement everyone asks me small block or big block what I want to know is what is the difference with the two (other than one goes to a big block motor and the other a small black) is it smaller, larger, will it bolt up so on and so forth if anyone can help me that would be great.
The internals of a Big Block and Small Block are the same, the only difference between the 2 are the case, the BB case of course is larger at the opening where the Torque converter goes than the Small Block. If you find a BB trans thats in good shape you can rob the internals out of it and put in your SB case.........I am sure there are probably some differences in valve bodies and some of the early 80's had a lock up torque converter but for the most part they are the same........
