Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default Buying an RC for parts

Im thinking about buying an 87 rc for parts, for my 85 W-100. The owner says that the rear end tag says that it has 3.73 ratio. I always thought the RC had 3.55, 3.90, 4.21. Also, the RC is a 1/2t w/ a 360. is the rear end most likely an 8.25 corporate, or a 9.25. I was in my sunday best when I looked at the truck, so I wasnt crawling on the ground to see. lol. Anyways, I want to buy it for the front clip, front and rear ends, motor and tranny. Any info will be GREATLY appreciated! Oh, one more ? Is the tranny a 727, or a 904, and how can I tell the difference. Ive been a Nissan mechanic for about 15 yrs, so im pretty new to the Mopar thing. I have the skill, just not the critical knowledge. And finally, will Magnum heads fit the 360 block? Im aware that If they do, that I have to change Intake, exhaust manifolds, etc. Sorry for so many questions, Just want to do it right the first time.

Well, I went back and took another look, figured out that the rear is an 8 1/4, front is a 44, like every other 1/2 ton. Still need to know the difference between a 727 and 904. And the head question. Thanks in advance!

the easiest way to find out is to look at the tranny pan:

727 pan: 904 pan:

notice the bulge on the left of the 727 picture.

'Magnum" came in the 318 and 360 varieties (and V6-ers). It replaced the "LA" engines around 1992. added MPFI and loads more HP. The newer heads will not fit on an older LA block, even with the new intake and trottle body. you'd also need some cam and crankshaft sensors that aren't in the older block. I would go with aftermarket performance parts for your older engine.

Hope that helped.

Thank you for the reply!! I read somewhere either here or another site, that you could bolt on magnum heads to an LA block. I was planning on using a MOPAR M1 intake for these heads, so I wouldnt need the CKPS or a CMPS, since ill be putting a holley truck avenger carb. on. Thanks again for the info. Would you or anyone else happen to know if there are any better factory heads to bolt to this 360. Like different years, or if 318 heads will work, like smaller combustion chambers, but may need larger valves cut in, etc.?
