Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Unhappy Engine loses power after 2 hours of driving

I have an '86 4wd with a 318, automatic transmission and disconnected smog pump. She has 101,000 miles.

After 2 hours of highway driving, the engine misses and stumbles to the point I have to stop.

After I stop, shut off the engine, and wait 5 minutes, I can restart and drive for another 2 hours before this occurs again.

After I experienced this problem the first time, I installed a new fuel pump, filter and flushed the fuel system.

I do not know what to do! Is this an emissions issue, a vacuum issue or a sign that she just doesn't like long trips anymore?

Please help!

Temperature and fuel pressure are good. I have recently replaced the coil, rotor cap, button, fuel cap and tank vent line.

She's still misbehaving.

New to site. I am having same problem with my 1997 Ram, 5.9. Put meter on computer an got a reading that says that cylinders #1,3,5,7, are misfiring. This problem came up after driving about 15 min. Like you I changed rotor, cap, and pickup as was told by Dodge Mechanic.

Default Loss of power

I found my problem on my 97 Ram today. The converter has gotten bloced up on the left bank that goes into it. There are two inlets for the exhaust pipes. You might check it.

It might be a heat sensitive hall device/pickup asm in the distributor?
