Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default ramcharger steering

Hi guys, I am new too the 4x4 world and to mechanics in general. I have a 89 RamCharger and has treated me pretty good so far. Since i got the truck i have had some steering wander. I noticed that the steering shaft was pretty loose into the coupler(I think that's what it's called.. the piece that comes out of the steering box and connects to the steering shaft). So i replaced the steering shaft with a steering shaft that had a u joint on the end since i have a 3" body lift. This has not fixed the issue of wandering though. Could it be the steering box itself or maybe the track bar? Just don't really no what to check next. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Default wandering steering...

Yeah bud, there is a slotted screw with a locking nut on the top of your steering box, loosen the nut and turn the slotted stud clockwise about a quarter of a turn...then turn the steering wheel lock to lock(gently, then back to center(wheels straight)...check for excess play in the wheel, if it feels good hold the slotted stud in place and retighten the locking nut...this should take up the extra play in the steering, repeat procedure as needed but don"t induce binding by over doing it...kingoftow
