Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Talking 1977 Ramcharger speedometer gear?

Hi, I recently upgraded my 1977 Ramcharger with a 5" skyjacker lift kit and 35" Nitto Mudgrappler tires, anyway, my speedometer reading is very inaccurate and I would like to know if someone could tell me where exactly is the speedometer gear located. I've looked around the transmission and I've even disconnected the speedometer cable to check but I just can't find that gear so that I change it to the right size. Any ideas? My truck has the 360 engine and the 727 transmission. Thanks.

Generally the speedometer gear is where the speedometer cable is connected. One you unsrew the cable at the collar, remove the bolt that holds the mated threaded part into the transmission. One the piece is out of the transmission, the gear may be attached to the piece, or you may have to reach in the transmission with needle nose pliers and remove the gear. Coming up with the correct size for such an old vehicle will be the trick.

Question

Did you ever figure out what speedometer gear you would need tp calibrate your speedometer?

I have several gears for sale. 25, 27, 29. 30, 33, 34 and 35.

This chart doesn't go up to 35" tires, but you'll get an idea how it works.
