Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default dodge 440

Hello all! I have a 1980 ramcharger 4x4 with 318. I also have a 1970's dodge RV that has a 440 in it. Can anybody tell if or what I would have to do to get the 440 in the ramcharger? Will it handle it? Thanks for any help ahead of time!

you have to take your current ramcharger tranny plus the one bolted to the 440 to a tranny shop, reason is the bellhousing is different, only a bigblock transmission will bolt up to a big block engine, and your 4x4 transmission has a short tailshaft and it bolts directly to the transfer case, the tranny shop will use the big block tranny housing and a few of the internal parts (most of the internals are the same with the exception of a few parts beefed up to take the extra power) and they will make you a shortened 4x4 version that will bolt up to your transfer case, next see if the radiator from the rv will bolt into your ramcharger, reason for this is the 440 bottom rad hose is on the opposite side (in most cases) and the rad should be larger for the 440,if the rad doesnt fit you will have to come up with a crossover lower pipe, you can use exhaust pipe and get a muffler shop to bend it up so it will work, just use the rad hose at the ends or get a custom made radiator, the top rad hose should be no problem as both engines have top mounted thermostats, keep the engine wiring harness for the 440, you have to use the torque convertor from the 440 (obviously) other then that it should be pretty much straight forward
