Default 46re Transmission swap

Hey all. I have an '02 1500 with the 5.9 V8, which has the 46re transmission. I don't believe the transmission has ever been replaced or rebuilt, and I'm at 240k miles. Transmission seems to be running fine at the moment. I saw a used 46re from an '01 with 150k miles for $150. Two questions:

1. Is there a difference between 2nd gen and 3rd gen 46re transmissions, or are they universal?

2. For $150, is it worth it to pick this transmission up as a spare for possible use in the future? Unsure of the wear and tear, but just want someone with more knowledge in this area to tell me their experience with these transmissions.

Thanks!

2000 and up are the same. 4X2 and 4X4 are different. Have a look at the fluid, If it's dark/dirty you may want to pass. Could buy it and rebuilt it then install it.
