Frame stiffness in 2003 Quad-Cab
RJCaptain73...
I feel your pain in this situation. I've had the same problem with my '03 QC and i think you are right about the way the roads are in SoCal. Somehow, someway, the Dodge frame and wheelbase match the seperate sections of the road thus causing that bouncing effect. It's weird that it happens on some freeways and not on others. For example, the 710 freeway between the 91 and the 10 and also the 110 between the Vincent Thomas Bridge and the 405 all bounce excessively when driving it.
Here was my fix to 'calm' the bouncing down. I purchased a tonneau cover (Snug Top XL) and the weight of this seemed to push the back side down enough to lessin the bounce. Yes, it probably wastes gas due to the extra weight but the aerodynamics that the cover adds more than makes up for the lost mileage which actual increased 1-2 mpg since i bought the cover.
Anyway, keep posting if another solution is found!

I'd thought about adding the weight in the form of a tonneau or a shell. I had a tonneau on my 95 Ram, and though I liked the way it looked, I hated the way it restricted my load-carrying ability. I like the look of my '03 QC Hemi, and I don't want to ruin it with a shell, either.
I'm actually thinking about taking a good hard look at the underside of my '03 to see where I might be able to install some bolt-on frame stiffeners of my own design and fabrication. Perhaps some 2" aluminum rods/tubing bolted longitudinally between the crossmembers that are near the suspension?
Wonder if that'd void my warranty?

Well I just returned from the dealer where I've bought two cars now, and they told me there is nothing that can be done.
"All quad-cabs do this. Longer wheel-bases are even worse, and forget about duallies."
I even looked under an '04 that was on a display stand out front for places to attach a set of home-made stiffening bars, and I couldn't find any anchor points at all.
Dangit, I don't wanna put a shell or tonneau on my truck just for the weight of it!
