Default Removing and Replacing knuckle joint on 4x4

I have a 1995 RAM 2500 SLT 4x4. I removed the caliper and rotor, removed the tie rod end, removed the sensor, got the knuckle loose from the axle housing and then came to a standstill. The knuckle doesn't come free from the axle housing. Both of the knuckle ends need about a 1/2" and its out of there. I am attempting to replace the u-joint on the axle, the rest of it seems in good order. The knuckle ends ( like king pins) are $175 a wheel so I hope I didn't hurt them. There's a race housing that has the rear bearing race and the front bearing race pressed in to it. There's 4 seriously strong bolts holding the race housing to the knuckle assembly. If this were to come loose (it seems like it is pressed in to the knuckle), the axle would pass through the knuckle and then there would be sufficient room to lower the knuckle and put it all back together again.

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Your post is kind of hard to follow. I tried reading it a couple times, but I kept getting lost as to what you're trying to say. Maybe it's just the terminology you're using.

You don't have to remove the steering knuckle to replace the U-joint. The knuckle is held in there by upper and lower ball joints. Hopefully you didn't wreck those. [:'(] The axle shaft pulls right out through the knuckle once you remove the wheel hub (bearing/hub assembly).

You have to remove those 4 bolts from the back of the hub. Those bolts are what's holding you up. You also have to remove the large castle nut in the center (on the front side). Then you can seaperate the hub from the axle shaft.

There's a write-up here for it: http://dieselpowerman.tripod.com/Fro...xle%20Tech.htm Granted it's for changing seals, but you have to remove most of the same things to change a u-joint
