Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT

For sale: 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT w/ 5.9L V8, automatic transmission. 124,500 miles, clean title. Rust-free South Carolina vehicle. Faded paint, dent in LR fender behind wheel opening, no other damage or replaced sheetmetal that I can determine. Good upholstery, carpet and carpet mats, interior trim, no headliner fabric; power windows, door locks, mirrors, AM/FM/cassette deck works (see below on mirrors and radio). Step rails, bed rails, drop-in bedliner (no rust under it), Class IV hitch, 7-pin connector. No CEL's, no leaks, unusual noises or visible smoke from engine; transmission -- shifts properly, fluid pink, no burnt odor or leaks; no differential leaks. Brake pads/shoes good, Walmart tires have 70% tread left. Original window sticker, owner’s manual, and OEM heavy-duty turn signal flasher.

Currently does not run due to PCM communications issues. This https://drtparts.com/product/dodge-dash-replacement/ will likely fix the problem but it is not worth it to me. I don’t have a suitable workspace, the time or the skills to fix it. If someone is looking for a truck to restore or a source of good usable parts, take a look at this.

Four owners, I bought from third owner and have performed the following maintenance based on lack of records and recommendations from forum members.

Engine: camshaft position sensor failed, replaced; intake plenum repair and new intake bolts, valve cover and throttle body gaskets; new water pump w/ new bolts & steel inlet pipe, thermostat & gasket, coolant temperature sensor, all coolant hoses, radiator cap, flushed cooling system, fresh coolant; Cloyes double-roller timing chain and crankshaft seal “while I was at it”; new PCV, distributor cap & rotor button, plug wires, spark plugs; new battery terminals; Mobil 1 High-Mileage full synthetic & NAPA platinum filter. Link came off (have it) later that controls air flow between floor and dash vents, installed coolant cut-off valve to keep hot air at bay during the summer. Radiator replaced and transmission cooler routing through radiator bypassed, definitely not by owner #3.

HVAC: new heater core, evaporator, accumulator, dryer, HeaterTreater blend-door actuator coupling.

Other: new power steering hoses and pump; driver’s window regulator w/ motor replaced, new OEM-type headlamps; new dashboard top and instrument bezel from LMC.

Known issues: clip/link that moves air distribution door between dash vents and floor vents came off, have the link. Cruise control -- indicator lamp comes on, vacuum line doesn’t move diaphragm, bad actuator? Outside mirrors don’t heat though indicator lights up. Only RR speaker works -- LF speaker looks to be aftermarket, was unable to properly re-attach wire when replacing window regulator, RF probably the same, don’t know about LR. Do I need to say anything more about the dash? Have ashtray and glove box though both have broken pivot/hinge points. Needs headliner.

I would rather see it go to someone who wants a project or can use the parts rather than go to the pick-your-own-parts emporium. As stated above, it currently does not run because the PCM and instrument cluster won’t talk to each other. I will update with photo of instrument cluster with the truck running if the PCM will connect. If you are interested, private-message me, and plan to have to tow it home. Vehicle in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

$2500 OBO

Thank you for your comment! I saved it from an uncertain fate three years ago when I bought it from my son-in-law. I put $4000+ into making it reliable but as I stated previously, the PCM communication issues are beyond my abilities. I don't expect to recover all I've invested, though I would like to see it be "resurrected" by someone who would appreciate its low mileage and relatively good condition, either by restoration or parts source rather then be unceremoniously hauled to an automotive landfill/junkyard to be ravaged by vehicular vultures. Unfortunately, next week it will have to meet its fate.

SOLD!
Sold!
Sold! $1000.

My next-door neighbor who has been loaned the use of this white 220K+ miles 1999 Sport along with the owner of said vehicle joined together to purchase my truck today. Potential buyers who saw the for sale sign and were looking for a cheap truck were explained its issues as I stated in this listing and that it may not in their best interest to buy it for their intended use. I was thanked for being honest. I was able to get a videos of a cold start and the CEL"s going out as it ran and under the hood as it idled and warmed to running temperature that I showed to shoppers. The buyers know what they are getting.

They will be taking it to a shop next week. I don't know which way they will go as to fixing one or the other though I will certainly be informed.

Thank you to all you forum members who offered information and advice.
