All the pics I can find show a chrome housing with a smoked lens. I need a black housing with the smoked lens like your 4th gen set.

If you have, I'll buy em.

FYI:

I have a '05 Ram Single Cab shortbed. I ordered the black housing clear lense ones from E-bay with the 3rd brakelight from 2 different vendors, and the 3rd brakelight didn't fit for **** both times. The second vendor I dealt with was you guys. I will say this, your customer service is TOP NOTCH. Seriously, I was extremely impressed with your handling of my issue, and refund upon return. ITS HOW ALL BUISNESS SHOULD BE!!!

I want to get a set of smoked tails with black housings for my '05, and if you've corrected the 3rd brakelight issue with your manufacturer, I'll order right now.

Guys, I HIGHLY recomend Sypder auto, just wished the 3rd brakelight would have worked. I have their smoked headlights and smoked HALO fogs, and fitment and quality is excellent on everything else.

Thanks for the kind words!

I believe all of the SMOKED SONAR products Spyder offers have the same color of SMOKE on the lens so the 3rd Gen Tails should have the same degree of smoke as your headlights as well.

In terms of the housing, we only have the Chrome unfortunately for the the SMOKED set.

Also if the issue with the 3rd Brake Light is with the harness, we have not come to an arrangement with the manufacturer yet. Although, you can usually cut off the harness from the Brake light side and then splice the wires to the wires of your OEM harness. This way it'll preserve your OEM harness.

Well the headlights I have are black housing clear lens.

What I was refering to is this:

The pics you have above show the new 4th Gen smoked tail lights with a tinted lense with and a black inner housing (where the LED's mount)

The pics I have found on-line of the 3rd gen smoked tails, show a tinted lense and a chrome inner housing (where the LED's mount)

I was wondering if a smoked tinted lens with a black inner housing is available for the 3rd gen rams.

The problem I had with the 3rd brakelights was NONE of them sit flush, they all sit about 1/4" proud of the body.

Here is stock:

Here is the aftermarket:

The GAP was unacceptable. It would have caused water leaks inside the cab.

^^^Regardles of the brand of 3rd Brake light being installed, you should use RTV sealant no matter what. Even if it looks super flush, use rtv sealant.

Obviously, you've never had one of these off a truck. They come with a pre-installed seal. However, the 3rd brake lights provided by Spyder Auto, the housing doesn't fit the opening. I would have had to trim metal off the truck (NO WAY was I doing that) or destroy the light housing. (removing the offending plastic would be detremental to the light, and caused failure)

The first one I bought, the lense and rear housing weren't glued/sealed correctly and also cracked when I tried to snug it down.

The second one had the same issue, as can be seen in the above photos.

By your flawed logic, I was supposed to fill a 1/4" gap with RTV? Thats mickey moused, and not the correct way to do anything. Also, once its RTV'd in, how are you supposed to remove it, should a bulb fail? You would have effectively made it un-serviceable.

Makes me wonder how many other projects you "completed" with that logic.

If it was supposed to be RTV'd, Dodge would have done it that way from the factory.

For the money spent, the part should have fit correctly, much like thier tail lights, headlights and foglights I own. I'm not woried about the wiring, I can always install a GM Weatherpack plug.

Sorry to hear that, but unfortunately I believe we have not fixed the 3rd brake light issue for your model yet. Once it does, I'm sure I'll be able to post it up on these boards.

In regards to the tail lights, the Black Housing/Smoked Lens is only for the 4th Gens as it was a new idea and are only being applied to the newer models. If you don't mind tinting/smoking your lenses yourself, you can pick up the Black tail lights and get them tinted.

You should apply that idea to the older models. You'll take the entire market.

The self tints all look exactly like self tints. Poor quality.

I'm going to check with recon, as I think thier tails are black housing with smoked lens, and I know for a fact the 3rd light fits no problem.
