Lightbulb How Do You Power Your Dash Cam? Plug-In or Hardwired?

Quick question for dash cam users here 👇

Do you prefer powering your dash cam via:
  • Cigarette lighter / car charger, or
  • Hardwiring it directly into the fuse box?

🔌Car charger pros:
  • Easy to install: You're up and running in 60 seconds.
  • No wiring knowledge needed: No messing with the car's electrical system.
  • Great for rentals or switching vehicles: It provides maximum flexibility and is ideal for rentals or if you frequently switch between vehicles.

🔧 Hardwire pros:
  • Cleaner setup (no visible cables): All wires are tucked away for the trim look.
  • Enables parking mode: It is a lifesaver if someone bumps your car in a parking lot while you're away.
  • More stable long-term power supply: A more stable, permanent power supply that frees up your 12V socket.

⭕️ No matter your choice, Vantrue offers a range of high-quality dash cams designed to fit your needs — with easy-to-use car charger options and professional hardwiring kits available.

We also offer hardwire kits with low-voltage protection, so your car battery stays protected during long-term parking monitoring.

Plugged into an aux power point under the dash. Wires run along under headliner. Stealthy.

This kind of installation keeps the interior clean and clutter-free, with no messy cables showing. I'm sure a lot of people would prefer setting it up this way.
