My truck hates me!
My son recently informed me that we were now smog exempt because of where we live. So I had this great idea to cut out my catalytic converter and have the shop weld in a straight pipe for me. Then I could get better performance, mileage and all that. Well like a idiot, I whacked that sucker out before thinking it out at least a little ways through. I figured since I was exempt from smogging the truck no problem... Then when I show up up at the shop, they wouldn't even talk to me. They work on my truck with no cat and they get fined $10,000 and get shut down. The guy tells me it is worse than selling drugs or something. Says people are probably in the trees video taping him just trying to catch him doing something like that. Needless to say I was floored! So I just went to a buddies house and had him weld it in. Problem solved? NO. Now my truck is throwing a p1495 code saying something about a leak detection pump solenoid circuit something.. So now I can't figure out what is throwing the code. I think I have done what I should have, cleared the code and it comes right back. So my truck that has always run great, never gave me one problem, runs like crap. Runs way too rich, just guzzleing the gas and it is pissed off at me for doing this without thinking it through. I'll never do it again, but w/o the cat am I going to have to run differant 02 sensors? differant chip? I'm not a mechanic, Ilove my durango and I would like to know if any body has any ideas as what I should do?
My son gets a lot of info through these sites and seems to think it is my best chance. Believe me I have learned my lesson and just want my truck back. Help in nor cal is needed!!
I would greatly apprecciate any feed back... thank you, Dave in calif.dscdad77@yahoo.com
