BIG PROBLEM,, Need Clarification
Hello, I purchashed a used set of 20" chrome rims that came off a 2003 Doge Ram 1500 when my wife accidentaly curb checked my 2005 Dodge Ram Daytona 4X4, cracking the passenger side wheels. As I am currently deployed to Iraq, my intent was to have her take the rims to the local powder coater so I could have them powdercoated gloss black, which was a project I was gonn' do when I came home anyway. My wife took the rims to the powdercaoter only to have them tell her that they believed the spokes were PLASTIC in construction!! Now,, everything that I've found on OEM Dodge Ram Wheels is that they're either made of aluminum alloy,, which those are,, or steel. In fact, I've never even heard of wheels with plastic components used for full sized trucks. Can someone point me in the right direction here?
Basically, I need proof that OEM 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 wheels are entirely aluminum allow w/ no plastic components,, except the centercap. This willl determine if the powdercoater is a moron or not. Thanks.
They are indeed PLASTIC, and cannot be painted. I recently bought a set of 'chrome clad' rims that came off of a 2003 Ram 1500. There is a plastic face that is adhered to the aluminum rim, don't even try to take it off! I would think your best bet would be to offer up a trade to someone for their silver rims, same rim design. They can be painted. If the 'chrome cladding' is in descent shape, somebody will probably swap with you.
God Bless you guys in Iraq!!!
