Ceramic Heater AC Blower Motor Resistor Pack Modification.

Mobile Auto Repair

Description:
I had to do a modification by replacing the original pack due to burnt up wiring harness plug and I was not able to find a van with the harness I needed. So I took one out of a 98 Ram 1500 truck and custom installed into the van's blower box. The new pack is of the solid ceramic type instead of the open coil design that was original to this van. Also found that the evaperator was very dirty and cleaned it as well. The fan now runs on all speeds and the air out of the ducts about 5 to 10 degres colder than before.

Full view of the new Resistor Pack location and you can see how dirty the Evaporator Core is. Due to the different design I was not able to use the original location, so I picked a different location to install the new one.

Evaporator core now vacuumed out. Now the AC can blow colder air into the cabin.

View of the lower portion of the core along with the core Freeze Sensor reinstalled. Note how the wires for the sensor is now routed down instead of up, this is to stop any interference with the new Resistor Pack location in the cover

Completed modification install. Latter I will take a peice of plexyglass and make a window cover to go in place of the old resister block opening. That will help in detecting when the core needs to be cleaned again.
