I used a exaust pipe piece sold at the part store $3.29..then used strips of elec tape to soften the edge..the size of the pipe is 2 1/2" OD. It was long enough to do the output shaft seal at the rear of the transmission. When I did the install I used a small piece of 2x4 and a rubber mallet..

the brush assembly is held down by three screws...be sure to use a GOOD condition #2 phillips for removal with good down pressure..you don't want to strip them out! Then the two round head (#2) screws hold down the terminal block..I snapped on of the field terminals when removing the nut..this was a result of rust and uneven pressure being applied trying to get the nut to spin loose...boooo

to install my alternators type of brush assembly, all I did was cut a strip of thin cardboard from a notepad and used it to hold the spring loaded brushes down into the case as I slipped the assembly over the rotor shaft and seated it into position..often the assembly 'spring case' has a small hole for this procedure..where you can use a toothpick or red tube that often comes with a can of wd-40, to hold the bruches in place...
