700 Horsepower SUV

We now live in a world where 700-plus horsepower 3-row SUVs are a thing, and we love it! It's awesome to see FCA squeezing every last drop of potential from the Hellcat power plant by fitting it underneath the hood of as many cars and trucks as they can. And the Durango was one such truck. The 2021 Durango Hellcat was unveiled this past summer and it has enough straight line acceleration to compete with supercars!

7 Seats, 3.5 Seconds

The supercharged V8 launches the big SUV from a stand-still to 60 miles per hour in an unbelievable 3.5 seconds! And it sounds crazy to even be talking about 1/4-mile numbers for a 7-seat truck, but this thing can do that in just 11.5 seconds. With that kind of performance, it's no surprise that the folks at The Fast Lane wanted to pit it against the all electric Tesla SUV.

Hellcat vs. Tesla

The Tesla in question in this particular drag race is the Model Y Performance, which is a smaller vehicle than the Durango. So perhaps a direct head-to-head battle between the Hellcat and a Model X would have been more appropriate. Nonetheless, the video shows the EV eek out the victory over the Dodge in the drag race, despite the Durango getting off the line quicker.

EV or V8?

When it comes to the complete sensory experience of driving each car, however, I think it's rather safe to say that the Durango provides a whole heck of a lot more smiles per miles than the Tesla. Not to mention the ability to transport your family and friends comfortably.

What's Your Pick?

And don't forget the towing capacity of the Durango either. At the end of the day, comparisons like this are fun, but they rarely provide any sort of useful information. Unfortunately, both of these SUVs have been victims of quality issues. For Tesla, that's not very surprising. But we've come to expect more out of FCA. Which one of these ultra-powerful sports utility vehicles would you go for?
