She's a Real Go Getter

By the late 1960s, American popular culture had become to define the concept of "cool." New trends in music, architecture, and design began to set the pace for trends that would last for the next half-century, and the automotive world was no different. By 1969, the Dodge Dart was at the height of its powers —the ideal combination of affordability, reliability,v and style smarts that helped make it a favorite among American drivers. Dodge Darts has recently undergone a renaissance among collectors, and this sleek green machine makes it easy to see why.

Comin' or Goin'

This particular reimagining of a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger comes courtesy of Sunnyside Classics of Elyria, Ohio. Although as the car’s solid, expertly painted exterior proves, this vehicle has never seen an Ohio winter. In fact, it hails from California, so the metal throughout the body and engineering —over and under —remains in excellent, rust-free condition. In fact, as serial numbers and numerous factory stamps will attest, much of the car is factory original.

Best Side Showin'

The base level interior color fabric and dash for 1969 Dodge Dart Swingers was jet black, however, the Sunnyside Classic team has reimagined it to play gorgeously off the car’s new lime green exterior paint scheme. Wimbledon white/cream colored door accents and seating fabric is a marked improvement, complete with the addition of a cream-colored shifting knob to carry the look through.

The Perfect Mixture

The car is powered by its fully restored 340 Engine that performs perfectly with its original rebuilt Edelbrock carburetor. The engine is mated to a D21 four-speed transmission and rides smooth as can be thanks to heavy-duty rear springs, torsion bars, firm ride shock absorbers, and body-colored fifteen-inch wheels. For those who are sticklers for authenticity, however, the car's original fourteen-inch wheels still accompany it.

Cover of a Magazine

The car’s additional interior features include original stock bench seat, cigar lighter, fully functional “Music Master” AM radio, and sport-styled steering wheel. As of April 2000, this particular Dodge Dart Swinger was one of 15 known to exist with numbers matching criteria in the Chrysler Registry —a fact that only serves to further enhance its one-of-a-kind status.

The Last One to Call it Day

And as if all that originality wasn't enough, the car is also still in possession of the plate frame where it was originally purchased— Reseda Dodge of Reseda, California –as well as it's original California license plate. Beloved by automotive show attendees, adored by collectors, the Dodge Dart Swinger holds a special place in American automotive history—a fun to drive car that was one of the first to offer impressive performance to the everyday commuter.
