Life With a 1996 Dodge Viper GTS

The Viper GTS is about as classic as a muscle car can be. Big engine, big power, big torque, simple equipment, and a have-fun-don’t-die attitude. Time has treated the Viper well, and its aura hasn’t changed much. People still assume it’s a handful to drive … because it is. The horsepower numbers aren’t small, but in today’s Dodge showroom, 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque is now rivaled by the current 392 Hemi engine. The Viper GTS’s big V10 engine still provides a hairy-chested driving experience, though, and for Hagerty’s Digital Managing Editor, that’s the whole appeal.

Yoav’s Viper has been in his possession since 2008, and the story of its arrival into his life is pure magic. He found it on eBay, placed a bid, and watched as no one else placed money on the blue and white beauty. It was located across the country in Florida, as he lived in Los Angeles at the time. So he and a friend flew out to take possession and drive the car to its new home. Since that day, Yoav has driven it regularly. Though he says it’s not his daily driver, he still uses it properly. And that’s OK with us.
