I'm trying to decide on whether or not I should replace my stock water pump to a http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GMB-120-3041P/ water pump. I've got plans on doing some mods and I've noticed that my temp gets a little high when I'm idle for a while or with the truck off but accessory on. I'm uploading some pics of it now.

 

generally you don't replace a water pump unless its leaking, or you happen to be working in the neighborhood and the pump is more than 5 years old.

that pump makes a lot of claims. its pricey at $110 vs about $65 for a stock pump. if it actually did anything special, it would be worth it.

 

What would you recommend for a pump to replace my 11 year old pump lol?

 

Any stock replacement will do. All they do is move around a specific amount of water through a limited channel, that will not change. If you are having heating issues at idle I would suggest either the bearings are starting to go on this pump, or your fan clutch is going bad. You may also want to look and see if your radiator is plugged up a little.

 

dont go with a pump that puts out more pressure than your stock one. the performance ones meant for racing usually put out more pressure because heavily modified engines twend to have alot of bypasses and extra hoses to push water through. for your truck all that extra water pressurew means is extra money, radiator problems, or even worse, water jacket problems. stock ones flow enough. maybe its not the pump causing the overheating

 

Ok it's 11yrs old, Its off the truck, it looks tired, and your having some problems, Might as well get a new one.

 

Stay stock . It's off , replace it ! Sounds more like a weak clutch fan , or restrictive airflow through the rad/condenser . Does it also increase in temp while cruising 60-80k on the hwy ?

 

Temps are perfect while driving, it's only while idle for a little while and all it takes is a little gas to get it back to normal or drive it for a couple seconds.
Any pump recomendations?

 

Stock will work just fine.

 

You may have restricted air flow. Take a hose and blow some strong water through those rad veins and clear out all the bugs you probably got trapped in there. I do that to mine every so often, specially when I go on trips through wide open areas. It's amazing what great bug smashers these trucks can be. In the city it's not noticeable but out in the country the grill becomes a bug magnet. I even have birds eating them off the front end when I stop for gas.
