Default 94 dakota V6 won't rev

I have a 94 dakota V6 with 300,000 miles. I jumped a curb recently and it will no longer rev over 3000 rpm and prefers to run at 2700 or so. I am thinking fuel filter, (where is it?) or catalytic converter. My first thought is to unbolt the cat and see if anything changes. But clearly there are some people here that know a lot more than me, so I am just checking to see if anyone has any other thoughts.

thanks

What happens exactly? Does it only rev up to 3k if you floor it? Or does it bog down if you try stepping on it hard?

First thing I would do is look underneath and make sure you didn't smash the exhaust pipe or something. If it were restricted, that would definitely cause the symptom you're describing.

It starts to rev up, but then bogs at about 3000rpm and kinda settles at 2700. doesn't matter if it is floored or not. My first thought was air and fuel, air is good. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to use. Exhaust is not smashed or bent. I can hear a rattling that seems to come from the catalytic converter when I let off the gas.
