Default think its fuel filter im stranded

1999 durango I took a freind to a casino in mountains.i went to go leave and it turns over but it doesnt want to start.like it doesnt want to hold gas pressure or something.it starts then automatically dies.is it the filter.it also sounds like a back fire commin from carb

Can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key? It sounds like a hum coming from the gas tank.

And beyond the fuel pump I'd look at the IAC on the throttle body as well as the battery connections, those two things are the usual culprits for starting then dying.

I've had my Durango run bad and stall it turned out to be bad connections on the battery terminals. I had to hold my foot on the gas just to keep it running.
